Michele has worked with children's choirs for over twenty years, both as a conductor and as an accompanist. She taught private voice and piano lessons for a number of years. Michele has transcribed the Great Paraklesis set to Western Notation with text from the Great Horologion, and has since recorded it to a CD so that others may learn it.
Michele studied classical piano beginning at age four and continuing through her college years. She started singing in choirs when she was ten years old, both in church and secularly, and continues to do so today. When she was 17, Michele began voice lessons with the president of the opera company in Anchorage where she classically trained for three years. She then studied under a vocal technique professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage for three more years. She also studied Byzantine Notation under the famed John Michael Boyer in Berkeley, California.
Michele Sparrow grew up in Alaska, where her family converted to Orthodoxy when she was a child.
Michele studied Secondary Education and English at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She homeschooled her children for a number of years and later taught kindergarten for three years at St. Lawrence Orthodox Academy.
In 2010, Michele went back to school and got a degree in Holistic Nutrition. She started a business where she now works with people with compromised digestion and autoimmune diseases.
Michele and her husband, Isaac Sparrow, have been married for 23 years. They have two boys, Seraphim, 22, who is in his first year of law school, and Simeon, 20, who is in his second year of college.
